Dear Finn,

You still continue to amaze me each and every day. While you may not be the biggest boy in your class, you surely are one of the biggest in personality! I love the animated looks you give me every day- and was even happier to capture some of these looks…they just make me happy!

Here’s to you, my silly, silly boy!

I love you,

Mom

letters to our daughters | march 2014 | sibling love

i missed last month’s installation of “letters to our daughters”…trying to get back on track! here is my letter for this month! please follow the link at the end of the post to see everyone’s letters to their daughters.

Dear Maddy,

Today, you stood up for your little brother. You thought someone was not playing nicely with him and it affected you…so much so, I could see the hurt visible on your face and in your eyes. You took it upon yourself to talk to your brother and let him play with you.

I know you don’t always get along…you’re siblings- that just doesn’t happen! But ever since we brought him home from the hospital, you dubbed him your “Little Buddy”, and I love how much you look out for him and take him under your wing. I love how you two play together and look out for each other…as Army Brats, sometimes you only have each other. Even though you will probably have several friends throughout the years, I hope that you continue to grow this relationship- you only have one brother!

I love you (and know that your brother adores you!),

letters to our sons | march 2014 | paleontologist

i’m sorry that i missed last month, but i’m back on it this month! please sure sure to follow the link at the end to follow the circle around and see some amazing stories!

Dear Finn,

This month, you have been quite the paleontologist! You are on a quest to learn all things dinosaurs…specifically, the Spinosaurus.  We changed the design of your new room from Star Wars to dinosaurs.  You watch as many episodes of “Dinosaur Train” and various dinosaur movies that we find on Amazon.  You ask us to print you out pictures of dinosaurs and dinosaur bones to color on almost a daily basis.  You also spend lots of time in the sand pit in front of our house with a paint brush looking for dinosaur bones. The other night, you snuck in a secret fossil and went to work to see what you could find after brushing away the dirt.

I admire you passion and eagerness to learn! May you always be this way!

I love you!

letters to our daughters | january 2014 | girls’ day out

It’s that time again where a group of my photographer friends and I write letters to our daughters. Please be sure to follow the link at the bottom when you’re finished reading my letter!

Dear Maddy,

We had a Girls’ Day Out after one of my photo sessions…and I was lucky to have you not only help me with the shoot, but you let me have a mini session with you as well!  These are few and far between, but I knew I had to take advantage of the situation! It was a beautiful day at a beautiful location, with one of the most beautiful girls I know! What a joy it was for me! I know you were really looking forward to going to a late movie, but for me- this session- time with you- was what I cherished the most.

I hope you look back on this day as good time spent together doing things we both like- but more importantly, doing them together! Here’s to many more days like this in our future!

I love you!

letters to our sons | january 2014 | the dark side

Dear Finn,

After you watched the Star Wars movies on your birthday, you have become quite the fan (your Godfather completely approves and supports this new fascination!). While I went away for work, you watched all of the movies in our collection with your Dad and quickly added just about every Star Wars Lego set to your Christmas list!

Of all the characters, you are drawn to Darth Vader the most (or “Dark Raider” as your sister used to call him). I asked you what you liked about him and the Dark Side the most, to which you replied, “The power.” I suppose this will make for a good discussion when you are older. For now, I will just go with it!

As soon as Christmas ended and the crowds died down at the stores, we made our way to Target where you used your Christmas money to purchase your very own Darth Vader helmet. I also got you a tiered black curtain to use as a cape. From that day on, you have donned your mask and cape over your dark pants and black sweatshirt (you are very detail-oriented) and walked around the house saying, “You don’t know the power of the Dark Side” in the Darth Vader programmed voice or trying your very own Darth Vader voice.  It very well might be true that I don’t know the power of the Dark Side, but I do know the power of you!

I love you, my little Darth Vader…the good and the dark!
