52 of you | week one | monterey lifestyle photographer

52 of you | 2013

this year, among a myriad of other projects, i have signed on to complete a “52 of you” project…what does this mean? this means that i am making it a priority to get on the other side of the camera at least 52 times this year!  as a photographer, i love helping people capture their family memories- and i need to make sure that i am doing the same for my family. so it here it goes (a little late posting on this site, but i was on time!)…

just as you are

these were a series of pictures taken the day after my kids received their flu shots.  my son had a reaction to it, so he was up basically from 2:30 until 5:30, where we both proceeded to pass out on the couch for a couple of hours. this is me: no make-up, bed-head, exhausted, and in pjs…however, this is me with my kids- AND we all look happy! i’ll take that!

face painting…with Sharpies!

if you look closely, you can see what couldn’t come off! at least the kids were quiet and entertaining themselves! sometimes it’s just being thankful for the little things!

feelin’ it!

a new year, a new wardrobe! this is a special picture for me- it takes me back to the day we went shopping for new clothes- going for the sporty look (as opposed to the somewhat sloppy look before). she was so excited about the clothes and kept saying, “it’s like it’s a new me!”, and “i’m feelin’ it” became the code phrase for acceptable outfits (from both of us!). this girl is such an old soul- and very true to who she is. i love that about her!

 on the hunt…

on wednesdays, my daughter gets out of school early. we often hit up the local yogurt store on cannery row followed by rock climbing on the beach. love my girl time!

are you done yet?

day 10 (woohoo! double digits!), kids still helping me in this project, but i’m wondering how much longer i’ll be able to bribe them for pictures?!

catching my breath

not the greatest picture- my collar is tucked in on one side and i’m not feeling my blue fleece- but i love the location (which i have always wanted to shoot at) and i love the fact that i just finished a run (on track with marathon training). i think i’ll have to head back here for another shoot!

alone

he was so sad…his sister spent the night at a friend’s house, and he was left all alone.

sunday morning meditation

ok, so he wasn’t really reading, more like playing with the ribbons that are the colors of the rainbow…but at least he was entertaining himself! it’s a start!

Erica Collins - Beautiful collection, JoAnna! I especially love day 12. Beautiful moment to have captured!!

J. Reynolds Photography - Thanks, Erica! Glad you made it to my site! Hope to see you in a workshop soon!

anticipation

we wait until new year’s day to open our stockings, one of my husband’s traditions. needless to say, the anticipation was killing her!

even super heroes cry

flu shot day! my mom was very happy about this…as you can see, he was not happy at all!

the morning after

so…this is the morning post-flu shot. my son was up from 2:45 until 5:45, where we both proceeded to pass out on the couch for a couple of hours. here i am in all of my glory…in my pjs, bed-head, no make-up…but i am in a picture with my kids- and more importantly, we all look happy! i’ll take that!

the reunion

this is my son and his “girlfriend”.  they didn’t see each other over the holidays (eternity in kid-time)…today, they were reunited! LOVE!

cheers!

really good champagne with a really good friend! who says you need a big reason to celebrate? this year, i will celebrate the little things!

teamwork

i LOVE how these are together! this was after they both spent the night at a friend’s house, where my daughter snuggled with my son to help him get to sleep. she takes the best care of her “little buddy”.

happy new year | monterey lifestyle photographer

happy new year!

apologies for taking so long to update; however, i have been very busy planning all of my photography projects that i have set out to complete this year!  let me tell you about them…

i have decided to attempt a 365 project.  this means that i plan on taking a picture every day this year. i really want to take this time to work on how i shoot, what i shoot, and work on my style. i’m not limiting myself to taking pictures of only people, but i want my pictures to have some sort of meaning- at least to me since i am the reason i am even embarking on this adventure!

as part of my 365, i am going to incorporate self-portraits as a part of a project called “52 of you” on facebook. another photographer has challenged us to get on the other side of the camera more this year.  and while this scares the bejesus out of me, i understand the importance and am ready to take part in this challenge! besides, i have given myself complete edit/delete/posting control! you will be able to track my progress on this site as well as on my facebook page.

i will also be taking part in a blog circle this year with some other women photographers that i have linked up with through Clickin’ Moms– this is a blog/forum that i owe so much! i have participated in their workshops, conversed on the forums, and immersed myself in their blog articles! i really have learned so much from the women on this site…and more importantly, inspired! i cannot wait to see the things i learn from the members- particularly from the members of my blog circle…be on the lookout at the beginning of the months for links to fellow photographers!

wow! as i type this out, i realize i have a long, hard road ahead of me! however, i am really excited about taking this year to continue to grow and refine my photography skills…here’s hoping you all are willing to go on this journey with me (that facebook “like” button really is a virtual high five…go ahead and press it!).

happy new year to you all!
